A drop of water in an infinite desert.

It is incredibly rare—an exception—since we know of no other like it.

A cosmic accident? A celestial arrangement? An anomaly? Either way, we question its meaning… Ultimately, it comes down to a choice, one that each of us must make: chance or necessity?

The mathematician, university professor, and astrophysicist Trinh Xuan Thuan is an internationally recognized specialist in extragalactic astronomy. He has published 400 articles on the formation and evolution of galaxies and the synthesis of light elements in the Big Bang.

After more than 35 years of scientific work based on observation, analysis, and mathematical demonstration, Trinh Xuan Thuan has reached a conviction: chance is not responsible for life, nor for the harmony and beauty of the universe.

“People may call it what they wish, but to me, it is clear that a creative principle has shaped the necessary harmony that gave birth to life.”

A Unique Treasure at Risk

Logically, we should protect this rare exception as our most precious treasure. Instead, we treat it as an endless stockpile of resources, consuming without restraint—risking turning it into a barren wasteland.

Machines, powered by efficient and inexpensive energy, have amplified human capabilities and enabled humanity’s expansion.

Since the Industrial Revolution, the human population has multiplied tenfold, and our consumption has increased six to seven times over.

This insatiable hunger, a defining trait of humankind, leads to frustration among the wealthy and deadly shortages among the poor—sparking unrest and violence.

The Need for Moderation and Action

Sobriety and moderation are clearly necessary if we hope to prevent the premature disappearance of our rare and exceptional world. However, humans are products of the very system that created them. It is therefore naïve to believe that we will fundamentally change. We can be educated, but we will not change.

Education can guide behavioral evolution, easing frustration among the privileged—but it will not solve the shortages that fuel rebellion and conflict.

It is now essential to increase resources, particularly freshwater, for the benefit of the greatest number.

Seawards: Committed to Innovation for Life

Seawards is committed to industrial innovation to increase the availability of freshwater while preserving the environment.
